The panels
These panels are a metamorphosis of the intricate circumvolutions of the bisj and canoe prows, and represent the conjunction between tradition and modernity: a creative elaboration to satisfy the cultural actuality adapting it to the classic cosmogony and integrating it in the traditional universe.
The most traditional symbols of the Asmat culture are reproduced in today’s panels in a more stylized form. For example: nose decorations, wings of flying foxes or hornbill heads are traditional pictorial elements of the past still used even now.
